Designing a Flower Cutting Garden

Ever since our 3-year-old first saw Anna’s Cutting Garden, she’s been enamored with flower gardens. She loves to make and sell flower bouquets in her front yard farmstand and this year the natural extension has been to design her own garden and plant the seeds from flower packets she picked out.

We measured a rectangle to get the dimensions  and made a scaled map on paper. She wants the following things in her garden:

  • a path to run down
  • a chair to sit in and watch the birds in the…
  • birdbath
  • a table to have a picnic on or to set her book while she’s watching the birds and butterflies who will be attracted by the…
  • milkweed for butterflies

After drawing out the map we realized it needed some color! We didn’t find enough flower stickers so I cut out pictures of flowers from old seed catalogs. She glued them on with a glue stick and was excited that “we made our own stickers!”

What do you like to plant for bouquets? Post a comment and let us know your favorites!

Very neat idea! It will be fun to try different flowers and leaves as they come in to season!
